Paper 1: FINITE ELEMENT AND SPECTRAL ANALYSES OF INDUCTION MACHINE FAULTS USING COMSOL WITH MATLAB (1-10)

Abstract: This paper investigates the spectral response of various electrical machine faults. Comsol is implemented for the finite element analysis while Matlab is used to perform a fast fourier transform (FFT) on the resulting flux density waveform to identify the correlation between pre- and post-failure harmonic content from the machine, and its viability as a fault detection signature. A three phase induction machine is simulated under healthy and faulty conditions with the resulting flux distribution spectrally analysed to understand the behaviour of various harmonics particularly at the fundamental frequency, fr, its second and third harmonics (2fr and 3fr). It is intended that at a latter stage, optical spectroscopy of the same faults will be carried out experimentally using fibre gratings as signal extractors in order to detect machine faults using light. The numerical results show that spectral analysis of the flux generated by the machine can be used as a condition monitoring and fault detection tool. Validation of this simulation concept using optics will unarguably expedite the much needed transition from the largely practiced, though very expensive offline diagnostic and preventive maintenance strategy to low cost online condition monitoring and predictive maintenance strategy.

Paper 2: UTILIZATION OF SAWDUST ASH AS CEMENT REPLACEMENT FOR THE CONCRETE PRODUCTION:A REVIEW (11-15)

Abstract: Cement is the main materials for the construction and it is very expensive. Considering the growing demand of cement, the researchers are probing towards the new cement replacement materials. To achieve the sustainable development, it is imperative to use supplementary cementing materials in the field of concrete engineering. Currently, numerous research has been conducted on the utilization of sawdust ash as a cement replacement in the production of green building material and an alternative means of wood waste minimization. The result of this research work has indicated that sawdust ash has a good potential to be utilized as replacement of ordinary Portland cement for the production of concrete. The aim of this review work is to summarize previous research studies on utilization of sawdust ash as a cement replacement. Hence, this review paper will provide the significant idea and valuable information for the fellow researchers working for the composite cement materials, supplementary cementing materials in the field of concrete technology and it is the considerable verdict that more research is deserved to be carried out on the development of high-strength concrete incorporating sawdust ash as a cement replacement.

Paper 3: PERFORMANCE EVALUATION OF ROUTING PROTOCOLS IN VANET ON HIGHWAY: POLICE CARS COMMUNICATION SCENARIO (16-22)

Abstract: Highways lead to main entrance of the city. They are occupied with different types of vehicles and need to be monitored in terms of accidents, traffic jams and any type of unwanted activity through an authority such as national highway police cars. Therefore, we need to enhance our security procedures during real time audio communication between highway police cars. This requires an enhanced and reliable system for voice communication established between police cars. Highway police cars mostly use traditional systems and face serious problems in voice communication. Call losses occur due to an unreliable communication system which further leads to difficulties in terms of finding or catching the suspicious person or look for an unwanted activity. One of the best solutions to this problem is to use the new dedicated technology for vehicular communication that is called VANET. Moreover, for reliable wireless communication among fast moving police cars, we need stable and efficient routing protocols. Therefore, in this paper, we assess the execution of two fundamental routing protocols, Dynamic source routing protocol and Adhoc on Demand Distance Vector routing protocol, for a temporary network of vehicles in a squad car correspondence situation. Execution of both protocols is being assessed on basis of quality of service parameters namely packet delivery ratio, average delay, throughput and normalized routing load.

Paper 4: GOOGLE MAP/GIS BASED SMART ANTI-THEFT APPROACH FOR ELECTRICITY METER (23-27)

Abstract: Electricity theft is social crime intentionally performed by electricity consumer. The purpose behind the electricity theft is to hide actual electric power consumption from respective electric power company. In Pakistan, it is very challenging task for power companies to hunt the individual who used illegal means to hide electric power consumption. Google map based anti-theft electricity technique is state of art approach to identify individual consumer through Google map/GIS based application. A prototype module has been developed and integrate with electric power distribution database system. The interactive map with prototype module display the transformer positions and associated access point’s electricity links. When the consumer gets a power connection from the high voltage transmission line by using illegal approaches, the GIS based application indicate the new power connection and Google map display the location of that connection. Moreover, the electric power company data base contain the basic information of registered consumers including meter ID, CNIC, name and mailing address. When the database system indicates any new power connection in remote sites, the database administrator verify the consumer by their registered ID. The consumers is either legitimate consumer or intruder.

Paper 5: MODELING ANALYSIS OF GAMES AND KENLAYER FOR HIGHWAY PAVEMENT AND MANAGEMENT (28-32)

Abstract: Innovated trend of the mechanistic approach of flexible pavement design is used to explore the design life of the pavements. The mechanistic approach defines the phenomena by identifying the physical causes. The research explores and examines the comparison of General Analysis of Multi-layered Elastic Systems (GAMES) and KENLAYER Layered Elastic Analysis Computer Programs for asphalt highway pavement analysis and design. The programs are identical to analyze any flexible pavement; the GAMES program has an ability to model multiple pavement layers and loads with layer interface slip and higher accuracy near to the surface of the flexible pavement, whereas, KENLAYER program is used to identify the responses of the pavement. Research evaluated the capabilities of both traditional pavement structural response programs. Data used in both computer programs GAMES and KENLAYER produced the same results of deflection and showed that placing the different vertical coordinates of points in KENLAYER programs does not show zero stresses and deflection at any point. Therefore, both the programs are vital sources to analyze any flexible pavement. However, KENLAYER program has an ability to determine vertical stresses under one point but at different vertical coordinates which will be helpful in understanding from top to bottom multilayered elastic pavement. This research also estimated design traffic load applications from both the programs and access design application (ESAL) for the future research.

Paper 8: A COMPARISON OF HOMOGENEOUS VS HETEROGENEOUS CHOICE OF ROUTING PROTOCOLS IN INTEGRATED WIRELESS NETWORKS (44-50)

Abstract: Mobile Ad-hoc Networks (MANETs) are meant for establishing quick communication between nodes in a closed group present in a small geographical area. It is very likely that the nodes within a MANET may wish to communicate with nodes in some other MANET or wish to access the internet. Such communication is possible by deploying gateways within each MANET to allow access to the outside world. In a typical multi-MANET scenario, gateways belonging to these MANETs may be interconnected via some infrastructure oriented network (e.g.: wired mesh, radio links or GSM etc.) Such networks are termed as integrated wireless networks. In an integrated wireless network, all the component MANETs may be forced to use a common routing protocol or they may be set loose to opt for any routing protocol. We call the former “Homogeneous choice” and the later “Heterogeneous choice”. This paper goals to evaluate the execution of two MANET routing protocols in such integrated/hybrid wireless network and try to answer the question whether a homogenous choice of routing protocol has any edge over the heterogeneous choice of the routing protocols.
